Cake for a Baptism



Pavia is a small town ... end up in the end we all know ... :)

This is the story of a cake, made for the grandson of Raphael, who was baptized yesterday, Sunday, March 6, 2011.

One day Cristina sends me an email, wondering if, in the case resided in Pavia ... Of course I live here! He asks me to send my contacts to a lady who took a cake and she, living in Rome, would be unable to achieve.

soon Raffaella I write, we set an appointment in the charming bar Demetrio, dominated by the monumental red glass chandelier from Murano, where we meet some day to talk about the work that would be realized for the grandchild.
I discover in the meantime that Raffaella has been known for a very dear friend, and talking nicely to cakes, candies, universities and children, the conversation between us melts: we talk like we've known for a long time ...

We have developed the idea of \u200b\u200bthe cake topper, for everything else I have carte blanche and to choose the decoration of confetti that will fulfill for you.

The dominant colors are white and blue, of course, but also decided to add a touch of yellow to brighten and lighten a bit 'of the monotony of these two colors.

few days after delivery of the first part of the job: the confetti decorated. Some are with a bottle, others with bows, others with the decoration of the cake that will be resumed.

When I begin to prepare the cake I decided that the base is a sponge cake, chocolate variation, the same Letizia use for some time and I recommend caldamente perché, sostiene, è densa,  abbastanza umida e anche molto gradita anche a chi è abituato al classico Pan di Spagna. Sempre Letizia mi consiglia la bagna: acqua, zucchero, una scorzetta di arancia non trattata e due chiodi di garofano, portati a bollore qualche minuto e lasciati raffreddare. Sorprendentemente buonissima.

Preparo le due basi, le bagno e le farcisco con una ganache al cioccolato fondente e al latte: quando so che ci saranno anche dei bambini  a consumare la torta preferisco non utilizzare solo cioccolato fondente, forse perchè il mio piccolo Lorenzo non ama particolarmente il cioccolato "nero". Poi ricopro cream butter and then sugar paste.

So, I like to coordinate all that, the idea of \u200b\u200bturning this garland of flowers around the cake and that is echoed on the decoration of the tray.

few days of work ... and the cake is finished. I painted in various shades of green leaves of garlands, I made hundreds of tiny flowers, and I left a bit 'by the ice for real this job ... or rather I have used very little, for finishing the edge of the plaque on the topper to make the decoration that covers the seam between the cake and tray to make the center of the blue and yellow flowers and, finally, for some small rosebud garlands on.

As always happens to me recently, after work, I feel helpless, empty, no more objective: I can not tell if what I just finished I really like it or not ...

So often, I leave to others to judge my work ... and so I will do now: this was my job ... I accept tips, criticism and suggestions:)

I matched the cake decorated with confetti and the others I have not photographed ... identical to those already several times before ...


Although I work with sugar, this week will be equally intense: prepare orders for the course of April, preparing handouts, think about the organization of other courses in the program, begin the next translation - still an article of "my" Eddie e. .. e. ..

... and Friday ... take a plane, along with Federica Silovoglio and Roberta, a girl who participated in my course of October, and we'll fly together in the UK to join the Squires Kitchen Exhibition and there, among so many wonders, will review and, hopefully, embrace and kiss still "my" Eddie ... which will attend the event for three days, an unscheduled meeting but, for me, highly anticipated ... I already know that, as usual, I'm going to cry like a fountain ... Anne
see again, my English friend, I will meet many people I know only by name, attended the forum of the British Sugarcraft Guild ... well ... a weekend in half the sugar ... that more sugar can not be: D

Here we are again with a new appointment with "my" real ice.

In collaboration with SilovoglioWeddingPlanner still in Castelletto of Cuggiono, I will give a new course, on days 2 and 3 April 2011, for those who want to participate.

Here are the jobs that I made:

module to eight hours, Saturday, April 2, 2011 - Beginner -:


plate coated sugar paste and decorated with Brush Embroidery technique.

The day's program includes:

- proper preparation of the ice real
- spegazione on the various stocks;
- Pharmacokinetic exercises in the decoration of the plate;
- decorating the plate;
- color plaque with pearl powder;
- realization of the decoration of the edge-if-hours to permit;

Form eight hours, level intermediate / advanced - Sunday, April 3, 2011 -.

Brush cake with technical / Stitch Embroidery, butterfly lace, Cornelli work.

THE CAKE WILL BE PRESENTED HERE 'SOME' SIMPLIFIED THE REASONS FOR THE COURSE OF TIME.

The day's program includes:

- Dummie cover a cake in sugar paste and cover the tray;
- completion of the topper to Brush / Stitch Embroidery;
- realizzaione real ice in the butterfly lace technique;

The cake tray will be impressed with the design, but the decoration will not be realized. I like to think that people who attend the course, returning home are the passion, the desire to continue the work done together ... as a kind of "homework", so to speak:)

Because of the cuts decided by the government (almost of € 400 million less for the Veneto), the Region is preparing to approve a budget that cuts with a hatchet and without any idea of \u200b\u200bprogramming and identification of priorities, virtually all items of expenditure.
Zaia is the only president of the Region to agree with the cuts decided by the government while all other regions (both ruled by the center-right, both center-left) had complained about the real risks of devastating consequences in terms of cuts to essential services (sanità, assistenza sociale, trasporto pubblico locale, ma non solo) e in aumento delle tasse.

Servizi sociali e sanitari.
È azzerata la voce " concorso finanziario alle attività istituzionali dei comuni e delle ULSS nell'ambito dei servizi sociali " (-20,5 milioni di euro), risorse che finiranno in un fondo di rotazione per l'edilizia socio sanitaria ( ma intanto i comuni e le ULSS rischiano di dover tagliare servizi e prestazioni ).
Sono tagliati in modo indiscriminato i fondi per il sostegno alle politiche per la famiglia (-10,5 milioni di euro), i servizi per i disabili (-45%), il fondo for long-term care (-15 million euro), then zeroed funding for the third sector. Essentially we are social butcher.

quello che lui ha scritto con il più grande degli onori: mai nella mia vita avrei immaginato che quel giorno, quando scoprii l’arte della ghiaccia e il suo più grande esponente, mi sarei trovata, un giorno nemmeno troppo lontano, a tradurre un suo articolo, che spero sia solo il primo di una lunga serie.

Come già detto in passato ho Eddie nel cuore… sempre.

Ecco quindi i numerali, proposti in varie tecniche, naturalmente in ghiaccia reale :)

L’articolo, apparso sul numero 100 della rivista Cakes & Sugarcraft, è esaurito.

E 'for some time I want to try this type of decoration. So here ... I tried.

The occasion was the birthday of someone special to me, Gabriella.
she liked the little angel that appeared in a British magazine, so I tried to put it in a "context" a little 'different.
The cake is a dummy, but I plan to make the extension even on a real cake. This for me is already a step forward ... :)

I really loved this cake decorating which differs a bit 'from my usual, all white. I wanted blue, clearly inspired by Wedgwood, and, of course, Eddie Spence. Apart from the coverage of the cake tray and sugar paste all the rest of the decorations are totally in real ice.

The design of the collar positioned on the topper is mine, but to realize exactly I asked for help to my friend Daniel, architect, thank you very much, for their valuable assistance.

The heart: mine. Inside Daisy made a technical Pressure Piping, that, for me, is the symbol of Eddie Spence, "my" Eddie ... that is to say that ... I have Eddie in the heart ... forever.
I decided that from now onwards this decoration - the heart with the daisy in it-will be my signature on each cake that will fulfill in the future.

The extension works have always fascinated me a lot, a little 'to the difficulty of the technique but also because I think they're an absolute delicacy.
Sometimes I take my black dummy and I start doing exercises ... waiting to be realized on a real cake, which I hope to be able to do soon.

This is what I "produced" this morning. The bridge was built with nozzle No. 1 while the vertical lines and slanted spout No 00.
